Inflammation & The Gut 101
I N F L A M M A T I O N 101
70% of the immune system is located in the gut/digestive tract in the 4th inner most layer of the Mucosa. We call this the GALT- gut associated lymphoid tissues aka the lymphocytes. Most of us know that our lymphatic system (lymphocytes) is a massive part of the immune system. This is a direct correlation of diet and gut health to our immune system. DIGESTION IS THEY KEY TO HEALTH!
Where do we go wrong in our diets?
Inflammatory foods such as high acidic fatty fast foods, gluten, dairy, processed foods have all been scientifically linked to inflammation allowing micro particles of undigested food particles into the bloodstream through the tight junctions of the physical barrier in our gut lining.
Chronic forms of this we know as Celiacs Disease and Intestinal Permeability or Leaky Gut Syndrome, where the tight junctions inflame and open but never close unless the person refrains from eating anything that is reactive to the body. As a gluten sensitive person this is also true but your tight junctions may open, stay open for a bit but close quicker than celiacs or leaky gut. We all experience different levels of our body’s reaction to inflammatory foods, some just are more equipped in their physiological strength and function to handle the opening and closing of the junction gates.
The second we eat something inflammatory these junctions inflame, loosen and open up allowing a flow of pathogenic bacteria, fungi, and toxins into our blood causing disease, more inflammation and an accumulation of toxins in the body. The more you become inflamed the more the gates open. Double edge sword. This will directly affect your absorption of nutrients and start to play out in fatigue and slugishness. Over time this manifests directly into chronic disease and chronic health conditions.
What causes these inflammatory diseases?
#1 THE STANDARD AMERICAN DIET- low fiber, highly processed, high fat, hard for body to break down foods.
#2 STRESS or MOOD DISORDERS
#3 ANTIBIOTICS & Pharmaceuticals
#4 ALCOHOL
#5 TOXINS- Environmental, mental, ingested toxins.
How can we get back our health?
It starts with your diet and moves into every aspect of your life. From your stress level, behaviors, mental health, lifestyle and exercise all of these are important factors in getting the physiology to awaken and enliven its inner intelligence to promote homeostatic and self repair mechanisms. AKA your bodies ability to self healing and regulate.
Our physiology is so deeply connected to this flow of natural law, you can see that it works in miraculous ways, so intricate that a majority of us have no idea whats really go on in there. We just know it’s working how it should. But it is that unconscious state we choose to live in when we could be tapping into the unified field of consciousness that governs these self healing mechanisms. We have to consciously tune into ourselves to really understand what our bodies need to awaken and thrive. The key to Ayurveda is learning how to balance the body and enliven the healing within. Which takes us back to the knowledge within the ancient vedic texts that Digestion is the key to health. Without digestion life would cease to exists. It is the engine to your car, the battery to your tesla, the true essence of human life.
